Brand Britain

Designing a website for an agency is a particular kind of pressure. The site is the portfolio piece. If it is timid, nothing else on it matters.

The brief.

Brand Britain works on shopper activation for consumer brands: the displays, campaigns and in-store moments that make someone pick one thing off a shelf instead of another. Loud, physical, confident work. The old site was none of those things.

The brief was to build something with the same nerve as the work, without tipping into the animated-for-the-sake-of-it agency site that takes four seconds to tell you what the company does.

What we did.

  1. Let the yellow do the work.

The brand has one very strong colour. Rather than diluting it across the palette, we set almost everything else in near-black and white and spent the yellow deliberately: the mark, the moments that matter, and nothing else.

  2. Designed at phone width first.

Over half the traffic to a site like this arrives on a phone, often from LinkedIn. Every layout was designed at 390 pixels before it was opened out, so the mobile version is the considered one rather than the compromise.

  3. Put the work above the words.

Case imagery leads every section. The copy underneath is short and specific, because prospects on an agency site are scanning for whether you have done something like their problem before.

  4. Kept the motion honest.

Movement is used to reveal and to guide, never to delay. Nothing on the site makes you wait for an animation before you can read it.

What shipped.

  • Full site design and build, mobile first
  • Work showcase built around imagery rather than description
  • Disciplined single-accent colour system
  • Motion used for orientation, not decoration
  • Editable case study templates for the team to add to

What it does now

The site now looks like the work, which is the only real brief an agency site has. It loads fast on a phone, it reads in a few seconds, and the team can add new work themselves without coming back to us.

Traffic and enquiry figures are with the client and will be added here.
